Bangkok is one of Asia's greatest food cities. Yaowarat (Chinatown) after dark is a street food festival: roasted duck, oyster omelettes, mango sticky rice, and fresh seafood grilled over charcoal. Or Tor Kor Market near Chatuchak sells premium produce, ready-made dishes, and tropical fruits — the best of Thai ingredients in one place.
Pad Thai exists here in its authentic form: slightly smoky from a proper wok, served with lime, dried shrimp, and bean sprouts on the side. Som tum (papaya salad) ranges from mild to tear-inducing — specify your spice tolerance. Boat noodles in small clay pots near the Victory Monument are a Bangkok specialty. Mango sticky rice is a must; the best is seasonal (April–June).
