Japan has four distinct seasons. Spring (March–May) brings cherry blossoms and mild temperatures of 10–20°C, making it the most popular travel period. Summer (June–August) is hot and humid, with a rainy season in June and typhoon risk in August–September.
Autumn (September–November) offers spectacular foliage colors and comfortable temperatures. Winter (December–February) is cold, especially in the north, but Japan's ski resorts in Hokkaido and Nagano are world-class. The best times to visit are April and October–November.
